Class Novel
This month, our book on tape is "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen.
Reading Logs
Your child is responsible for reading 30 minutes a night (at least 5 times a week) and keeping a log which you sign. Reading logs are due each Monday. Reading Logs are part of your child's weekly Literacy Contract grade.
Literacy
Ms. Berger, the ESL teacher, and I have an ESL cluster during Literacy this year. We are following the same framework as all the other classes.
We begin class with a review of vocabulary. We learn a writing skill and a reading comprehension strategy. Soon, we break up into groups for Centers. Ms. Berger and Ms. Pape each provide direct instruction in reading and writing with small groups of students. During Centers, students are also reading independently and completing assignments independently.
