What is a Library Media Specialist?
A Library Media Specialist is…
A Teacher - I work with students in the library media center, the computer lab and in the classroom. I meet district curriculum standards, teach students to research effectively, evaluate information and use current technology.
A Collaborator - I work with teachers to plan, instruct, and evaluate student learning.
A Resource Locator - I help students and staff find answers to questions and help find resources of all kinds to support classroom instruction.
Technology Literate - I work with students to use technology competently, efficiently and morally.
A Manager -Along with the assistance of many people, I make sure the library media center runs effectively and efficiently. I manage budgets and select, evaluate and purchase books, AV equipment and technology to meet the educational needs of our students and teachers.
A Technician - I manage, maintain and schedule all the audio-visual equipment in our buildings and troubleshoot technology problems. Many of us also serve as the Technology Coordinator and are responsible for network, software and user management.
A Staff Developer - I help teachers learn new technologies and how to use them with students.
Highly Educated - I have an endorsement in Library Science and a Master's degrees in reading.
A Lover of Literature - I enjoy sharing great books with students, teachers, staff and student families. I hope I entice students to have a lifetime love of reading. I also have ideas on how teachers can incorporate great books into a variety of curriculum topics.
A Lover of Learning - I love to hear about great books students are reading and new technologies students have discovered!
A Library Media Specialist is someone who makes a difference for every single person in our buildings!
