(Management Of Organizational Skills Everyday)
The "MOOSE NOTEBOOK" is one way of keeping students organized between school and home. It is a 3-ring, 2-inch binder containing valuable, school-related information. This management system keeps everything at OUR fingertips! Its handy sections provide a quick and easy way to organize: notes from school, graded papers, homework, newsletters, lunch money, reading logs, schedules, and other contact information. What a great way to show students one way towards becoming self-directed: by teaching organizational skills!
The acronym for this notebook stands for Management Of Organizational Skills Everyday. A different, more applicable acronym can be used if you choose to do so. See the M.O.O.S.E. Notebook links for more suggestions.
Basically, each child is supplied with a relatively inexpensive, 3-ring binder.
Within each binder, clear plastic or heavy duty pocket folders are placed; each is labeled for a different purpose. For example one might be labeled Daily Homework; others might be labeled Reading Assignments, Completed Papers, Please sign and return, etc. Clear plastic sheet protectors could hold calendars & weekly schedules & a zippered pencil bag could holds money & pencils.
There is no one right way to build the notebook. The only requrement is that it match your classroom routines, procedures, & expectations.
THE NOTEBOOK
A notebook could contain the sections listed below:
Entries are made daily so please look at all of the sections.
Newsletter - Newsletters will be sent home each Friday.
Homework & Word Lists - This folder will contain work to be done at home and turned in. It will also contain work that your child has completed at school. When your child has mastered a word list, this is where you will find his/her new list.
School Notes - This folder will contain any notes form school from our principal, school nurse, or any other school personnel or organization.
BACK:
Parent/Teacher Communication - This section will be for notes between you and me. I will be writing notes to you in this section. Please check it daily and I will do the same for communications from you. Please remind your child that this section is only for you and the teacher to write in. I would also ask that you leave any notes that we may write in this section so that we can look back and remember any communications we may have had.
Zippered Bag - Please put any money that you send to school in this section. (For Lunch…Arrow/TAB books…popcorn, etc.)
Monthly Calendar - I will be sending home a calendar at the beginning of each month. The calendar will have important dates and reminders of special events in our classroom. The calendar will be in a clear plastic sleeve & will be located at the end of the notebook.
Monthly Cafeteria Menu - The lunch calendar will be in the clear plastic sleeve, also, & be located at the end of the notebook.
